work/life balance

The first thing you should probably know about me is that I'm your typical, type A workaholic. I would rather hand a paper in two weeks early than two minutes late. But I enjoy what comes with being a workaholic. I like seeing an A on the front of a test, a nice comment at the end of an essay. For me, maintaining an A average is worth staying up all night revising for the end of topic test.

Last week I finished my January exams. I worked all over the Christmas holidays; the only days I had off were Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And now they're over and I can finally relax, I'm ill. Not 'stay in bed all day' ill, but 'generally feeling run down' ill. Up until this weekend I felt so mentally tired I could barely concentrate on a TV show. I just hope that when the results come in March it will have all been worth it.

When I decide to switch off, I am totally able to do it. If I think I've done enough revision I'll happily read a few chapters or watch an episode of one of my favourite shows. But if I don't feel like I've done enough work then I'll stress about it until I know I'm ready. For me the best way to stop stressing is just to do the work.

I have two more years of school and then five years at university. This year I plan to really crack the work/life balance problem so when I have loads of medical exams to revise for I'll totally be able to do it!

Just as I do in every other aspect of my life, I'm sure I'll work on this and eventually get there. And I'll be sure to keep you all included in what's going on!

things i'm loving

I love shopping. Too much. But then so does every girl, right?

1. Chunky knit sweaters are perfect for this time of year! I bought this sweater last week despite the bad reviews online and I'm so glad I did. It's really warm and comfy - I'm obsessed!

2. Gossip Girl  - even though we all know who Gossip Girl is now, I started rewatching it from season one to see if I could have ever figured it out. And I didn't think it would be possible seeing as I know what will happen but, again, I'm hooked.

3. Fingerless gloves are great when it's not freezing but too cold for no gloves at all. These are adorable and a complete bargain!

4. Hand cream is essential to keep your hands smooth and soft all winter. Hand food from Soap and Glory is A-MAZ-ING.

5. Reading - I can't read as much for pleasure as I would like but when I've had time I've been reading Is It Just Me? by Miranda Hart. If you're a fan of her TV sitcom you'll love it!

hello world!

I'm not usually much of a writer. I've tried many times to keep a journal but failed every time, mostly because it was the at bottom of a long list of priorities. I used to write short stories when I was younger (although I have to admit, most of them involved horses!) but that soon stopped when I was writing for school on a daily basis.

I don't know why but I think I might actually stick to writing a blog. It feels relaxed enough to not put pressure on all my other commitments, but interesting enough to keep me occupied! I might be the only person that ever reads it and this could be my last post, but for now the plan is to write entries when I can about whatever I'm feeling.

I hope that if anyone is reading this they stick around to see what may happen because quite honestly, I just don't know!
